MyGlassTruck, a division of Demountable
Concepts, Inc. is happy to announce the donation and unveiling of a
sculpture and plaque honoring former Glassboro Mayor Alvin Shpeen in Glassboro,
New Jersey’s Town Square on April 9, 2018. Alivn Shpeen served as
Glassboro’s Mayor from 1999 to 2002 and was instrumental in bringing Glassboro NJ and Rowan University together
to spark the current wave of economic development.
The sculpture, created by Demountable Concepts
features a life-sized, steel silhouette of the former mayor and honors his hard
work and commitment to the town and its citizens. The mayor was also a
Philadelphia Phillies fan who attended the Phillies Phantasy Camp, so he’s
portrayed at bat, forever ready to hit the next pitch. There’s a bronze plaque
in the shape of home plate with a brief inscription on how Mayor Shpeen set a
positive example and contributed to improving Glassboro’s downtown.
“Former Glassboro Mayor, Alvin Shpeen’s
dedication and vision created the groundwork for our revitalization and what
has become the new standard in suburban living and a model for cities
nationwide,” said Glassboro Councilman John E. Wallace III. “That is why this
statue belongs in this location, directly across from his previous office -- to
remind us, no matter how much we have to overcome, just what it is that
leadership requires; just what it is that citizenship requires. Alvin Shpeen
would have turned 87 years old this July. We do well by placing a statue of him
here. But we can do no greater honor to his memory than to carry forward the
power of his vision and a dedication to our residents.”
Rustin Cassway, President of Demountable
Concepts states, “Alvin was positive force in the town’s development and played
a key role in our decision to locate our facility in Glassboro. We saw how
nicely the town square has come together and decided it would be a perfect
place to honor Alvin with a sculpture. The town agreed, and we worked together
to make it happen.
If you are ever in the area, please be sure to
visit Glassboro’s Town square where the sculpture stands along with other
memorials such as Veteran’s Memorial Plaza. The town square has recently won a
2018 Honor Award for Landscape Architectural Design from NJASLA and truly
captures Glassboro’s community spirit.

The plaque reads:
“Dream Big”
At three feet six inches tall, former Glassboro Mayor Alvin Shpeen never
let his height stop him from dreaming.
He dreamed of:
…being a lawyer
…being a county prosecutor
…being mayor
…starting a local Boys and Girls Club
…playing with the Phillies
…starting Rowan Boulevard
…and did it all.
Be like Alvin Shpeen --
Dream big and you can do it!
